Types of Furnaces
Canada HVAC has partnered with Direct Comfort by Goodman to offer you the best gas and electric furnaces.
Electric Furnaces
Electric furnaces can last longer than other furnaces as they have fewer parts that can wear out. Additionally, electric furnaces are energy-efficient and can help maintain ideal moisture levels in your home. Plus, you don’t need to worry about carbon monoxide, soot, or ashes.
Gas Furnaces
Gas furnaces come in both natural gas and propane gas (propane conversion kit required). They are a favourite for many because they are cost-effective and produce even heat even on the coldest days. Furthermore, annual maintenance on your gas furnaces will keep them operating efficiently, safely and at peak performance.
Things to Consider
A new furnace is a significant purchase. Below are some things to consider to help ensure you select the right heating solution for your home or office.
-
Climate and square footage:
Climate and square footage have the greatest influence on your heating needs. With Canada HVAC’s online sizing calculator, you can determine the right size furnace based on the climate, square footage, and age of your home.
-
Efficiency:
If you are looking to purchase a gas furnace, you should consider The Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. The AFUE rating measures the gas efficiency of a furnace over a whole heating season. The higher the AFUE, the more efficient the unit will be. A high-efficiency gas furnace will have a rating AFUE rating of 90-97%.
Since electric furnaces do not run on gas, they have an AFUE rating of 100%, but keep in mind that electricity is more expensive than gas. Therefore, a gas furnace with a lower AFUE rating could be less expensive to operate than an electric furnace.
-
Lifespan and maintenance:
Gas furnaces have an average lifespan of 15 to 20 years. On the other hand, you can expect an electric furnace to last for 20 to 30 years. Electric furnaces are also usually easier to maintain than gas furnaces.
Warranty coverage:
To ensure your investment is protected, look for heating units with warranty coverage. Ideally, the unit should have at least a 10-year warranty.
Furnace Installation
Unless you’re a trained HVAC technician, it would be wise to hire a professional to install your new furnace. At Canada HVAC, we partner with local HVAC technicians to offer furnace installation in Calgary. They’ll do ductwork, sheet metal work, and other specialized tasks.

HVAC installation requires electrical, gas and refrigerant knowledge as well as familiarity with local bylaws and building codes. Failure to properly install HVAC equipment can create safety concerns and performance issues as well as void manufacturer warranties. For those reasons, Canada HVAC always recommends professional installation.
You are not required to book installation through Canada HVAC and can use a local installer if you prefer. Just remember that manufacturer warranties will be invalidated if the HVAC equipment is not professionally installed.
Direct Comfort offers a 10-year Parts Limited Warranty coverage on all functional parts and Limited Lifetime Compressor and Limited Lifetime Heat Exchanger Warranties. These warranties only cover the replacement parts only, not the labour required to install them.

Please note, professional HVAC installation is required to keep manufacturer warranties valid.
Preventative annual maintenance can help you avoid costly repairs in the future and makes your heating and cooling systems more efficient, safe and reliable. In addition, many manufacturer warranties require yearly inspections by certified HVAC professionals to maintain validity.
