Electric Furnaces
Electric furnaces use electricity to produce heat. These systems use electric heating elements to provide the heat that warms up the air. Electric furnaces are 100% efficient and are often larger smaller than most gas furnaces.
How They Work
Electric furnaces function just like hair dryers. They pull cold air into their system through a heat exchanger. Once air gets into the heat exchanger, the electric heating elements warm it up, and the blower then pushes it into the ductwork of your house, which then distributes it into the various rooms.
Gas Furnaces
Gas furnaces are the most common furnaces used in homes today since they use gas piped in from the local gas utility. These furnaces run at up to 98% efficiency. Gas furnaces effectively create even heating, are affordable to operate due to the competitive price of gas, have a lifespan of up to 20 years, and are easy to maintain.
How They Work
After gas enters your furnace from the local supply system, the burner lights it. Cold air from the house is pulled back to the furnace by the blower and crosses the heat exchanger where the fire is being produced. The warm air is then distributed through the ductwork to all the rooms in the house that have registers or vents.
