Buying a Heat Pump in Montreal
A home that is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer may make you and your family uncomfortable. A heat pump may be the answer to all your home temperature needs.
During the cold months, the heat pump captures warm air and redistributes it in your home, while in the summer, it extracts the heat and releases it outside. Since a heat pump handles both cooling and warming, it’s an excellent all-in-one HVAC system.
Heat pumps can be highly efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-reducing if you pick the correct one for your home. At Canada HVAC, we offer a wide selection of high-quality heat pumps from Direct Comfort by Goodman. Our team of experts will also discuss your needs, budget, and the best available heat pump for you.

Direct Comfort by Goodman Air Conditioners
Air-Source Heat Pump
Air-source heat pumps, also known as air-to-air heat pumps, use air as a heat source for your building. They consist of an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit distributes the warm air throughout the home, while the outdoor unit ejects the cool air.
Air-source heat pumps are energy-efficient and easy to install; however, they are not ideal in areas with extreme temperatures unless you have a good furnace as a backup heating option.
Types of air-source heat pumps include:
1. Ductless/Mini-Split Heat Pump
These heat pumps are perfect for homes without already existing ducts. Instead of a duct system, the mini-split heat pump uses small openings cut into walls to connect the outside and inside units.
2. Ducted Air Heat Pump
These heat pumps have an outdoor unit (known as a condenser) that looks the same as an air conditioner but is installed off the ground on brackets or a stand so snow doesn’t build up around them. The indoor unit (known as an evaporator coil) is either inside the ductwork nearby the furnace or, in the case of some electric furnaces, inside the furnace itself.
Water-Source Heat Pump
Water-source heat pumps use water from a nearby source as a heat exchange medium through a series of coils and loops. These types of heat pumps are the most expensive and require a decent amount of land to install them. They are not ideal for sub-division homes and more common in rural areas. We do not sell this type of heat pump at Canada HVAC.
Hybrid Heat Pump
For areas with extreme temperature differences, hybrid heat pumps exist as the best alternative to other heat pumps. Hybrid heat pumps combine two types of heat pumps and rely on the most efficient system depending on the seasonal and weather conditions.
Choosing the Best Heat Pump
At Canada HVAC, our team of experts can help you determine the best heat pump for your needs and climate. Before purchasing a heat pump, you should consider the following:
- The size of your home
- The insulation and ducting in your home
- The climate
- Your budget
These factors all influence the type of heat pump best for your home and your needs.

For those reasons, Canada HVAC always recommends professional installation.
You are not required to book installation through Canada HVAC and can use a local installer if you prefer. Just remember that manufacturer warranties will be invalidated if the HVAC equipment is not professionally installed.
